RE: Scott 130

I could be wrong but the 12AX7's located at the edge of the chassis (right in front of the power transformer) are the tone control amps, but the 'preamp output' is taken from the plates of them. By contrast, the tape buffer (the tape output) is the 12AU7 right in the center of the chassis and is only used to isolate the variable and possibly low input impedance of any tape recorder, Taking the output from the 12AU7 does that but it has nothing to do with the 'preamp output'.

Isolating the tape out is a good idea, but then not running a cathode follower for the preamp out makes the whole preamp kind of screwy.
