Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

I first heard the HF-85

sometime in the early 90s - my pal was looking for a budget preamp and we picked this up for $75. He had it shipped to me and I went over it before I was to ship it off to him. I was impressed and brought it on over to my friend who was running a modified Dynaco PAS. A few of us were hanging out and in the end we all preferred the HF-85. Soon everyone in our little audio circle were running 'em.

Neat part is the tape-out bypasses the tone controls but the volume still works.

These days it sounds colored to me - but definitely in a good way.
