Hi and yes, this must change.Restoration should cost (way-way) more than the unit. People need to know this and that you need a pro to do the work. Vintage restoration is way beyond clip and solder (in the same value caps). You have to know the circuit and parts tolerances then and now and be prepared to do the math with an eye for the art to get the best out of a vintage piece. The more research I do on restoration the more I see this as a necessary. Its not for the faint of heart.
A vintage professional restoration should take 10 to 15 hours and should cost at least $1,000. If you send a unit to the corner TV repair shop and the dude solders in some caps---you don't have a clue as to how good this stuff can be.
