Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

listen, tell you what...

... there is nothing old-fashioned sounding about an HF-81, simple as that. I've abandoned SE 2A3's (albeit far from TOTL, but still very nice ones) for an HF-81 that I rehab'bed. I didn't use botique parts, 'cause the amp doesn't need it. I don't even have "good" EL84's... bought a quad of the JJ's from Uncle Ned. No complaints. And, BTW, I have nice OS 2A3's in my Paramours.

Is the HF-81 "resolving"? I dunno; but it's certainly not smeary, if that's the opposite.

If you're uncertain about investing the $ in an HF-81, either don't do it :-) or find one and LISTEN to it. Where do you live? There's probably one within an hour of you.

Or... buy one speculatively. If you don't like it, re-sell it. Nothing to lose but some effort on your part and maybe one shipping charge.
all the best,
mrh
