Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Re: Vintage gear and pro-speakers: an alternative?

M Jarve, have utilized guitar speakers for two-plus decades with various electronics. Until three years ago, they were Utah Cadences, with a Jensen 1204 for a center speaker in Hafler configuration. Three years ago, upgraded to Celestion Vintage 30s & have been in harmonic heaven ever since. They give a tubesque tonality to that Marantz MR 235's direct coupled lateral mosfet output. Through those pro monitors, you're getting excellent efficiency coupled with a sonic clarity most hi-fi speakers rarely attain. It's that sonic producers(pro monitors & instrument speakers) vs. sonic reproducers(hi-fi speakers) audio axiom. You're hearing exactly what your amp outputs sound like, with the added benefit of of squeezing more volume from every watt delivered. That's why you hear subtle sonic shadings variate from one track to another, be they classic analog or modern digital recordings, through those Peaveys & J.B.L.s. BTW, recently had a Celestion 10" driver reconed, & the tech said the best drivers currently available are J.B.L.s(pricey but worth it) & Eminence(which makes Peavey drivers, also). You've got two of the best audio delivery systems available, M Jarve, & ya didn't even know it!
