Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Here's a general answer, others may argue it, but.........

My opinion is that virtually any quality amp or receiver made before 1985 would EXCEED the sound quality of a comparable modern unit, unless you want to spend BIG BUCKS, of course. I don't feel the same way about vintage speakers, however - only a few vintage models such as Klipsch, Bozak and McIntosh could stand up to the comparable quality speakers being made today - but I'd put my components up against anything modern and not even sweat it:

Pioneer SX-1980
Kenwood KR-7600
Stereotech 1200
Marantz 26 (the giant killer)
