RE: Look into full range drivers in the 12-15" range

Well there is always the Eminence Beta 12LTA. There are lots of plans for it on the web. It will need a tweeter, but there are many options.

Eminence also makes a 12" Coax (Beta 12CX) and they have a tweeter, matching crossover and plans. This is probably the easiest rout. Plywood should give you a vintage look and sound.
