I have tried several different sets of speakers with my Marantz 2230, including Mission, Rogers, Kef, Advent, EPI, Dahlquist, etc. The best match I have found so far (somewhat surprisingly) is a pair of Pioneer HPM-40s - their crisp, clear sound matches very well with the smooth two-martini Marantz sound. They may be at the upper limit for you size-wise, though.
