I suspect...

That many speakers lose their siblings due to basement flooding and the like. I see singles and sometimes pairs that have split corners from swelling due to water damage. Sometimes there is even mold growing inside the cabinets. I don't have a KLH 5 but I'm sure I have all the drivers if you can find or build another cabinet.
I have my share of orphans, well probably more than my share, but a single KEF C-80 does come in handy when you also have a Yamaha CR-840 with one channel out...
