I'd at least look inside and try to treace out the schematic. Sometime in the early/mid 70's, the japanese crossover caps got a lot better, so they don't degrade with time like the earlier ones. They also have lower ESR (equivalent series resistance) than the earlier ones, so they are a step or two closer to film caps. I'd look first to see what you have, and then decide what to do about it. Also, listen for a while and give the new sound time to soak into your brain for a while. The Joseph's are very different technology and a very good speaker, so it will be an unfair comparison for the Celestions. Best to just enjoy them for what they are with maybe a little freshening. I'd also try some different amps if you have access to some.Jerry
