RE: Eico HF-81 Opinions

Only heard the Sherwood 7591 amps, but they are outstanding. A bit better than the Sansui 1000a. The Scott 222 is a lovely little amp and has plenty of everything if your speakers are efficient and well behaved. Drove the heck out of my Cornwalls. I always wanted to hear the Sherwood 7189 amps. Am about to start on an Eico HF-87 power amp. Have all the parts from Jim including a number of tweaks he recommended. We shall see. Will eventually pass it on I am sure, but want to hear what one can do. My take is that I really like most any vintage tube amp once I am done tweaking them. They all have their virtues. However, I always return to my Citation I/II combo in the basement. Nothing else can touch them.....but a Sherwood, Eico, or Scott is WAY cheaper and gives plenty of enjoyment. Still, none of them have that absolute transparency of the Citation II....

my 2 cents..don
