RE: Dynaco A25

Bob, I've owned a couple of pairs of A-25 but don't recall hearing the Small Advents. From my familiarity with the Large Advents (decades ago) I would say they require more power to sound their best and are more particular about placement - out from the walls being best. They also offer deeper bass but bass quality on the A-25 can be very good. I'm not sure how much of this translates to the Smaller Advent.

Obviously with the three hanger brackets, Dyna expected many owners would hang them on walls. I would say it becomes a question of your goals. If you want only background listening then wall hanging can work very well (from bass reinforcement at lower listening levels) and horizontal VS vertical may not matter. Many years ago a small, local music store had two pair of A-25s mounted horizontally on opposite walls near the ceiling and angled downward (about 30 degrees). At moderate levels they sounded wonderful, and with a wide variety of music.

But if you are more interested in active listening and imaging and soundstage are important to you, vertical placement will be called for. If space limitations are a concern or you listen at lower levels, wall placement can work. But if you play at close to live levels I think you will be more satisfied by placing them on stands out into the room (less bass loading = cleaner, better defined bass). Also, imaging should improve by moving your speakers out from the front wall.

If you do decide on the A-25, search the archives here for hints on a few tweaks for even better performance. Good luck and have fun.
