Budget Vintage Receiver

Hi:

I posted the question below, regarding a Sherwood S7900-A, that was on Ebay... I was outbid on it, so I am still in the market...I am looking for something for my workroom, and really don't need anything other than AM/FM. I originally was going to purchase a new/used Cambridge or Boston Acoustics table radio, but it occurred to me that for the $200 to $400 I would pay for one of these, that I should be able to pick up a nice vintage receiver. I have an older pair of Radio Shack speakers with the Linaeum tweeters that I have had in storage. (I realize that this is by no means high end.) It would be really nice to get an old Scott or Fisher tube unit, but by the time I get them serviced, I would be over my budget range. However, there is no sense buying junk either... Can anyone make some suggestions for tubed (preferred) or SS receivers that are a good bang for the buck?

Also, I see that there is a Martel tubed receiver on Ebay--Does anyone have insight into Martel? I can find almost nothing when I do a search...

Thanks!
