You're right--this is only a data point. Since both seem to be operating without obvious problem, I left them unmolested. Undoubtedly they both would be well served with a cap refresh and a general internal cleaning.

Until these two amps, I thought little of vintage solid state. I bought a Citation 12 Deluxe new and thought it was lousy. Turns out that it, like every other solid state amp I've heard, is a poor match for Quad ESL 57s. By the way, those aren't the speakers I compared the amps on; I used some Mission BR2s that I thought would be a good match. Nice speakers for the price, BTW.
