I have a pair of speakers on order, and I can specify an 8 ohm or a 4 ohm woofer...I don't know why, but I always assumed that a SS amp that doubled it's power into 4 ohms was the only way to guarantee good bass. However, is there any reason why I could not get satisfactory results with an 8 ohm woofer, and a non "muscle" amp.
My reason for asking is, I am currently using a tube amp, and even though it has 4 ohm taps, I assume that it would be better off with an 8 ohm load. However, I do not want to limit my options, should I decide to bi-amp in the future--with SS on the bottom, and tubes on top. (The woofers in these speakers handle primary bass and upper bass.)
Thanks in advance!
