Re: DC at output: Why is it bad, and how to check?

Use the multimeter check as described in the other posts to determine if DC is present at the output all the time, or only when tuning. A DC offset greater than a few tenths of a volt that's present all the time indicates a bad capacitor.

It is normal for an FM tuner to produce a momentary DC offset when tuning. The tuner's detector responds to the frequency of the RF signal and can't tell the difference between the RF signal being slowly modulated versus the tuning knob being turned. The DC offset should not last for long if the tuner's coupling capacitors are OK.
