switching power supply

A switching power supply would require extraordinary filtering and shielding to make it acceptably quiet for use in a preamp. I'm not saying this can't be done, but why bother? The benefits of switching power supplies are high efficiency and small size - these become important at high power levels (> 50W), but at low power levels such as in a preamp, efficiency and size are much less important than low noise and good regulation, which are the strengths of a linear supply.
