You REALLY need too give it some break-in time before making any judgement on the sound quality.
A freshly recapped preamp will always sound lousy - in fact almost unlistenable- believe me! I've been through this many times!
Give it at least 50 hours of playing, preferably 100, before judging it.
I'm betting it will considerably improve.
