RE: Wooden spikes

I guess I will have to experiment but I have a few questions already in my head:

1) how can you move the cones around to determine best location? aren't they supposed to be glued to the chassis (when used "tip down") to hold in place?

2) using them "tip up" seems counter intuitive if one wants to drain the micro-vibrations OUT of the device - but probably good for isolation?... in any case, I most likely won't use that configuration, as the sharp tip would scratch my preamp badly I guess - BDR seem more "rounded".

3) would there be any benefit in adding a layer of absorption under the receiving cups (like a little Sorbothane pad)? Or to use, instead of the rosewood cups that are shipped together, some metal cups with a soft cushion under, that I have here in a box? Is there any theory behind all this or should I just try various ways and see what's best?

the only coupling / decoupling footers I have at the moment are some balsa wood + carbon footers from the Something Solid brand, and that's under CD drive; also have some sorbothane under the DAC.

My "rack" is made of Ikea Lack coffee tables which are supposed to "sound good" because of the material they're made of (Aerolam?).

EDIT I just re-read your post and I see that you are using some decoupling material under the cone. I will experiment. :)
