You're claiming that plating on the point of contact, where the signal actually flows from one connector to its mate, is not as important as the shiny coating on the rest of the connector? Ridiculous.
That KLEI stuff is criminally overpriced, as was the Eichmann stuff (same guy, new con): take out nearly all the metal, substitute cheap plastic, put on the thinnest possible layer of plating which easily wears away, then charge plenty compared to the cost of manufacturing. Oh, but the carefully crafted sales brochure has all kinds of fancy gibberish about how these are so innovative and cleverly designed, but it is proprietary and top secret! It is actually hilarious, right until they take your money for parts that are unreliable.
I don't understand why someone who is interested in and regularly posts about inexpensive eBay stuff from China, and the remarkable value it provides, supports outrageously expensive crap like KLEI?
