RE: Ultimate crossover resistors

Actually, it's the reciprocal of the sum of their reciprocals. I know you know better, but others may not.

That's an interesting combination, one that I would not expect. The Caddocks certainly are grey by themselves (I've tried them and liked them for a while), and adding a Z-foil would seem to just make that worse. Can you describe the sound other than by "really great"? When you think about it, that's just "grey" plus "t"!

The only problem I foresee with that combination, at least in your example, is the 0.6 watt rated dissipation of the Vishay's. If the power is proportional to the resistance, then a 30 ohm would handle 1/10 of the total, meaning the Vishay might be too small to handle power greater than 6 watts. Does this combination work with different proportions? Can the Vishay be 1/20 the value of the Caddock and still be effective?

Yeah, exact values in passive xovers are not necessary, although I have heard differences with component value adjustments as small as 3%. Matching between channels is a good idea unless your room sides or ears are unmatched. Oh, wait a minute...

My ladders are not at all flimsy, and they're outside the speakers so not subjected to severe vibration. I might damp them a little anyway, although I do not want to restrict heat dissipation.

Got an opinion of RN's in general?

Peace,
Tom E
