RE: Does it improve the bass response if I use the lower DCR woofer inductor

So a 15" woofer with dual ports is not dynamic enough for you? I'm a big proponent of modding all types of equipment if you have the capabilities, but if you don't have any experience, I wouldn't start by experimenting with such valuable vintage units. With a vintage speaker such as this, there are probably lots of other things to consider doing before messing with the xover components.

Are the enclosures still air tight or do they have leaks? Are the driver surrounds in good shape or do they look ragged or stiff? Have you checked all internal connections to make certain they're secure and not corroded? I have read that the magnets can weaken over time, and that would certainly ruin the bass response.

If everything is in perfect condition and you still don't like the sound of them, get different speakers or try another amp. Reducing inductor resistance by that small amount is not likely to make significant improvements, and will reduce the value of the speakers. It will reduce the damping factor which could provide somewhat improved dynamics, but it will likely not affect low freq cut-off, which is determined by driver and enclosure parameters.

If you cannot give them up and must experiment, perhaps try disconnecting the existing woofer crossover and using an active crossover and separate amp. If you can duplicate the designed transfer function (what the crossover does to the signal going to the woofer), that can have a tremendous impact on the sound of any speaker.

Peace,
