RE: Discrete dual op-amp with LEDs

Ultra stable, ultra low noise voltage reference.

The absolute Vf can vary quite significantly from led to led, say several tenths of V at fixed current, temp etc, across a batch of leds.

Though each leds Vf, whatever that turns out being changes very little with changing current, if that makes sense. For example double led current and Vf across the led doesn't change by much. This makes them a very stable voltage reference when fed with constant current source.

The other thing is, as voltage references go, their self noise is extremely low...as in as low as the best and most expensive precision references you can buy commercially.

They are all the rage for doing low noise voltage references for audio if you can stand the absolute variance of Vf from led to led.

Edit: one point of note. I can't say for sure that all LED's are low noise but it seems some very low cost and widely available examples have been tested and are popular among designers. For example, Bob Cordells site offers spice models for a few LED's they like..
