Am aware that (some) Spendors are known for imaging, and have even owned some of those particular models that do exel there. From your comment I am not sure you have personal experience with the S100's. I think you would find there is (as much as possible in audio) a consensus that imaging is one area where the S100s do not excel. However, with the mods I have tried and stayed with, I can say that they can be improved. For instance, they have a large front baffle with a raised lip on the edge that is a model for creating diffraction effects, so placing felt around the mid and tweeter helped. Replacing the polyester caps in the crossover, which have a sometimes-pleasant smoothing effect but seem to veil the small cues needed for imaging, helped. Improvements in upstream electronics also helped, particularly the use of certain caps that seem to enhance imaging as well as the use of precison (and high definition) resistors such as Caddock TF020 and MK132.
