Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ.

You sure you want to fix it?

Dozen decent caps is $40 bucks minimum, plus at least three hours to replace them, hoping that is all that's wrong. If repair goes perfectly and the problem is solved, then you've still got a 25-year-old mediocre amplifier. Everything has a life span.

Amp is old enough that solder contains lead and should melt easily, but I have always found snap-in caps to be the most difficult to remove. If the PCB's were made in USA or Japan, the pads should be pretty sturdy, but you still need to use some caution to avoid lifting them. If you do wreck any, you can wire direct with 20ga.

Good luck.
