6/8awg?

#10 is the maximum you can terminate to a standard receptacle. If you were to use #8 you would need to terminate a short pigtail. For #6 that means a split bolt termination and that won't legally fit in a standard box.

Forget this audiophile FUD! You need to observe local and national electrical building codes for permanent wiring. It's the law. Sure you can ignore it but there better not be a fire or other property damage because of it.

If under 50 feet #12 is fine. It it makes you sleep better run #10. But that's the limit IMPO!
