thanks for that

A very nice response. I did not seek to humiliate Duster in public. I don't even like to write about him here and now in the third person, but I will, only to explain myself.

I realize and appreciate that D contributes a lot of info to this forum and helps a lot of people. I have told him that before, here in public. However, sometimes he seems to get a bit carried away with his own infallibility. I made a very casual, light-hearted reference to what I thought was a pretty significant fault in his reasoning, namely, expectation bias. It is a very real phenomenon to which all human beings are subject. He took it the wrong way and, instead of simply admitting he, too, might be affected by it, he began to get very defensive, almost as if he believed he was above that. Had he only laughed it off or responded with any information about what his method is to overcome that universal human foible, I gladly would have let it all go and moved on. But instead it just got uglier.

Yeah, we all have our faults, fall into the same traps. The best way to overcome them and improve is to first recognize them. Pretending they don't exist is not the way to make things better.

I'll try to let things slide and not be critical of other posters. Inmates can believe and share all the loony stuff they want. Actually, I overlook crazy things I see here all the time, certainly not all from D, who often gives good advice based on sound principles. Too bad this episode got so hostile. Not every question or bit of criticism should be perceived as an attack.

Stay cool. Don't insult others, but openly and reasonably discuss the ideas. I'm sure D appreciates your support. And I appreciate your recognizing my experience. I do try to share info when I think it might be useful to others. If I don't know about something, I usually just keep my big mouth shut. If I see others doing something I don't think is right, I try to be civil about calling them out, especially here in public. When they respond uncivilly, I don't take it very well. I usually regret that later.

Peace,
Tom E
