RE: Vanilla flavored-lo fi

Hello, I received my Black Discus samples this past week and placed them in my system. The first one I placed on the Acoustic Zen MC2 (XLR) end that is plugged into my Theta Compli Universal Player and then placed the second one on the IEC end of my DCCA Emminence Power cord that is plugged into the Theta Compli Universal Player. I sat down to listen and at first I didn't really hear any difference. I was playing around with my new laptop on the couch listening to the music more in the background for about 30 minutes when it suddenly occurred to me that there was indeed a change. The sound had become more "analog-like" and the last hints of any digital glare were gone. The sound stage also became even more spacious than before.

A few days ago I removed the Black Discus from the system and listened to my system for about 30 minutes using a familiar disc Marillion - Live at Cadogan Hall. The sound had a slight hint of digital glare and perhaps some grain. Also, the magic of having the sound flow with an analog quality was gone. I then inserted them back into the system and that magical analog quality was back to the music. The change in the sound when using the Black Discus is subtle, but extremely pleasing to the ear. I almost gave up after my initial impressions were that no change was present. Maybe perhaps I noticed the change since I was busy with something else and wasn't concentrating on the music. It may also have to do with the setup of your system on whether you will notice a postive change in the sound of your system. I think after the Holidays I will place an order with Mad Scientist Audio in order to experiment further wit the Black Discus.
