That's why I originally asked about using them.
I wasn't gonna opine further, but since you mentioned it as well, I've never heard a granite base/shelf when it did not introduce the coloration from ringing.
I've heard granite shelves up to about three inches thick, and they still ring.
Unfortunately, I actually paid to have them made. :(
Not to mention, they are back breakers!
