RE: Speaker Ports

Woofers are generally placed at the bottom of the cabinet so why would you encourage extreme low bass content to exit via the top. It could only interfere with the mid and high drivers unless separately housed inside and would most certainly have negative consequences to imaging if the port where in the front baffle.
Bass response is always improved when coupled to the floor and near walls and corners.
That's why good loudspeakers, ones with good bass output have to be moved out from the back wall and away from the side wall.
