Altec Lansing computer speakers, for use with tv

Im looking o make a small subwoofer on the cheap for my lcd tv. The speakers it came with are actually a decent 2way design, but with tiny 3in mid/bass they are lacking in the bass department. OK so I got a subwoofer from an Altec Lansing ada880 computer surround system from a freind. He says it was working but he lost the satelite speakers in a recent move. The problem is that the satelite speakers have all the controls built in such as the on/off, volume, bass/treble....ect. So I cant get the sub to work. Ive looked around online for a schematic without any luck. The 2 front speakers onnect with some sort of din connector, the speaker with the controls looks to be an 8pin connector the other is 6pin. Now I wouldnt even be wasting my time with most computer speakers because they usualy use little tiny 4 or 5in woofers and 10watt amplifiers. But this one actually has a nice 8in driver, a decent sized toroid trannie and and the powerful class a/b tda7294 amplifier chip for the sub.
So I would like to do one of two things. Either figure out what the pinout of the control speaker is and try and make some sort of control circuit for it and use it as is. Or just use the box and driver and scavenge parts from the sub(driver, box, transformer, amp chips...) add some parts from my parts bin and built a new amp for it. It would just have to be a simple mono amp, with a level control, rca inputs and a lowpass around 100hz or so. Im not really looking for hi-end sound, just want to add a bit of bass.
Any ideas?
