Re: Adcom ACE515 power filter, bad, good - upgrades ??

I wouldnt plug your amp into a power conditioner, most companys reccomend amps be plugged direct into the wall socket. IMO the best upgrade to the power you can do is to run two seperate lines to your listening room, one each for digital and analog components. You also want to use decent quality sheilded power cords

As for your source components ive had both good and bad results with power conditioners. In the Marantz cd63se, there are a few things you can do to clean up the AC before the transformer. First off there is a spot for a common mode choke, but Marantz for some reason didnt use it they just put jumpers. SO unsolder the jumper and put in a choke. Second thing to do is get yourself 2 .47uf X/Y rated caps and put one across the ac line before the choke and one after the choke. Third add a decent sheilded power cable and a clamp on ferite ring. These few simple mods will clean up the power quite a bit. You wont need the Adcom AC#515 anymore, sell it and buy some more cds!

This may be off topic, but using the MArants duigital volume control isnt the best idea. When you turn the volume down you are actually lossing digital info. With the volume turned all the way down your not getting full 16bit sound quality. A better option would probably be a simple passive pre-amp, you could make your own with a few feet of high quality wire some rca connectors and a volume pot. Just something to think about. Do search on digital volume controls.
