Killed my cd53:(

Well I was in the process of extensive mods to my Marantz cd53 and i had just finished redoing the whole analog stage with .1% dale, 1% styrene, Opa627 and Blackgates and I put it back together and it is sounding absiolutel amazing fro about two or three cd. So i descided its goodenough to close it up and leave it alone for a while, i already did lots of mods to the psu and digital sections as well. So I closed it all up and turned it on and the lazer was going crazy so i opned ity back up, aparently one of the leads from a cap I installed got stuck to the bottom of the board and when I moved uit it shorted something and now its dead, its blowing fuses and dopesnt do anything:( ALl that work down the tubes:( I spent many hours with the soldering iron on this player and it sounded awesome, the best ive ever heard redbook sound:(

So now I need a new player and I dont have much to spend. Im thinking abotu another Marantz, or maybe a Rotel rcd865bx which ive heard good things about and pretty easy to find and under $100. but id also like to know if there are any other options. Any other players that are inexpensive theat respond as well as the Marantz to mods? Ive heard good things about modded Samsung 709 or Thoshiba 3950's in this forum, but I have a hard time grasping that these cheap dvd players are going to sound as good as my cd53 did. For one they have switching supplies, which im not familiar at all with, and they have video sections in there which can be good for the sound. The only thing they have going for them is thier DAC is much newer technology. Iv also considered using one of these modded to be used as a transport and building a nice DAC? Theres a ton of kits out there, but most seem to use really old Dac's like the tda1541?? What do you guys think/
