Re: Voltage regulator question

I have done some extensive mods to this player

1. Replaced all caps in power supply with larger Panasonic FC+.1uf film, schottky diodes, added inductors+ferrite bead in place of resitors in the psu
2. The analogue stage was upgraded, decoupling lytics changed to BG, opamps to BBopa672+opa132 on browndog adapters, and all resitors and caps in the filter section are .1% dale and 1% styrene, removed blocking caps, muting transistors and HDam buffer.
3. Digital section, all decoupling caps are rubycon ZA/ZL+.1uf smd xr7 cap, added xr7 caps right on the power pins of the dac/decoder chips. Added an upgraded clock with its own power supply.
4. Added damping sheets to the transport and chassis added a 3/4in mdf bottom plate sitting on vibrapods

So as you can see ive done alot of work on this player, luckily I had alot of the parts on hand already so i didnt have to buy much. The clocjk was bought as a kit and cost me abotu $50 to build. So the player cost me a total of abotu $150 and competes with players in the $1000 range! I havent even added the regulators yet, but from what others have told me even with standard 7805's the differance is not subtle. I plan on adding a seperate external power supply ala Naim's Hicap. The Dac and decoder both have seperate analogue and digital 5v inputs, so I am going to use a tranny with dual secondaries and seperate the digital and analog stage. After I do this the only thing the stock tranny will power is the transport and the analog stage! I could add a second transformer in the external psu to power the analogue stage, but the stock tranny has a seperate winding that powers the analogue stage, and since ive removed the muting transistors and hdam, its only powering the opamps, so i dont see much to be gained buy building an outboard supply. i will probably just add some super regulators for the analogue stage.
So thats it, ive put alot of work into this player and it really sounds amazing, its the best ive ever heard redbook sound and ive owned and heard some really good cd players. Ive compared my modded cd63 to the Ah! Tjoeb4000+upsampler, Naim cd3.5 and Rega Planet and it easily beat them all IMO. The Naim 3.5+hicap was pretty close but much more expensive.
