I removed mine and I didnt get much noise when switching tracks, only when turning the machine on and off. So I just leave it on now. There are lots of tweaks and mods to do to these players. If you want to learn more check out DIYAUDIO.com the digital section has a long 300+ page post on modding the cd53/63 and cd57/67. I have done some serious mods to these players and they can sound really great. But be prepared to do some extensive mods, because it gets addicting! Basic part swaps will get you a small upgrade in sound, if you really want giant leaps in sound quality you need to be willing to rework some of the circuits, adding seperate regulated power supplies for the dac, clock, decoder...etc
