Re: cheap pre-amp + xover?

What you need a small amp. There are tons of DIY kits around for small amps. Look at electronics123.com, 41Hz.com, Twistedpairaudio.com, etc. The 41Hz Amp3 is easy to build and sounds great for a tripath amp. The TwistedPear audio MyRef/Mauro Penasa chipamp Rev. C is killer (I just built my second one...it sound great). Rod Elliotts at ESP also has tons of small amps that would work great for you and be easy to build.

You can DIY a little TDA2040V amp that is cheap and sounds pretty good. Here's a little one I did awhile back. Just some perf boards and spare parts I have laying around.

For an added sub output, make an amp with three channels.

Making a Xover so that the stereo output handles only 100Hz or above would be easy to add in as well.
