In Reply to: How do you make a VERY GOOD passive pre posted by EdS on May 15, 1999 at 14:24:14:
Thanks to all who have posted. Perhaps I should have not been so terse. I'm using a c-j Premiere 11A w/ an old modified Sony 303ES. The variable control has been moved to the back of the cdp for shortest path. So I know I have sufficient volume. Since the format wars are far from over, I want to convert the cdp into a transport, build a passive pre, and perhaps get an MSB (or something of that ilk), until the new(est) source medium is decided BY THE MARKET. The pre will be used for CDs only. Wouldn't that contribute to some fidelity, as no selector switch is needed? Motive for a passive? Price, as I am in school and not working and skill level, as I have worked w/ PCBs under a microscope, but this is my first DIY audio project. Plus, Hyperion speaks quite highly of his passive mated w/ his c-j. Any ideas on how to fabricate the box? Or where I can buy one? I was considerring filling the box w/ sand to reduce RFI and add damping. Any opinions on this? Truely appreciate the input. Allen, sorry for posting vicariously "thru" you. Don't know how that happened.Regards,
EdS
