Open discourse and *constructive* disagreement are the foundations of scientific progress. I would ask the flame-throwers to kindly offer us the benefit of their knowledge, thereby helping us to learn some of what they know (and in so doing, perhaps to become more worthy).I couldn't agree more.
If you tell someone they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, you'd damn well better follow that up with a demonstration that you know yours from one. Hand-waving and vacuous pretentions of knowledge simply doesn't cut it.
Samuel Johnson is credited to having said patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. I'd like to borrow from that and say credentials are the last refuge of a charlatan.
