Re: Response to the Shakti thread below

The thread to which you refer has become polluted by some venemous excretions. This started not with the initial posts expressing doubt and disagreement but with the initial attempt to belittle those who would have the temerity to disagree. And this from one who did not mention whether or not he was a dealer for the product.

For me, that thread "ended" with another display of intolerance from one who touted his "credentials". The impression I got was that these so-called credentials provide unlimited knowledge and exempt the holder from any requirements for manners or civility. The index page to the asylum says to "leave the flames at home" but I guess credentials exempt one from that requirement as well. If the poster was trying to make me feel stupid, he succeeded. I feel stupid for recently recommending one of his amp designs to an acquaintance.

I've been in audio (as a hobbyist and a professional) for enough decades to recognize that for many, this wonderful playground is seen as their battleground, a place for them to stage the Armageddon of their ravaged psyches.

A fellow inmate asked for others' views regarding an approximately .3% (that's *point* 3) increase in automotive horsepower demonstrated by a single test apparently performed one time. A few other inmates including myself, are not convinced. No one cast aspersions on the maker, only on reaching conlusions based on what appears to be a single sample. The idea struck (and continues to strike) me as ludicrous and unscientific. I could be totally wrong. But I don't think so at this moment. Why should that get any intelligent, emotionally stable, scientifically conscious person upset? I don't think it would. That would only be possible if one of these three things was absent.

Open discourse and *constructive* disagreement are the foundations of scientific progress. I would ask the flame-throwers to kindly offer us the benefit of their knowledge, thereby helping us to learn some of what they know (and in so doing, perhaps to become more worthy).

September 11th changed everyone's world forever.
Must we deal with audio terrorists too?

Peace
and
Happy Listening!
