as i picked up a XS Tech Strata 1000 used after production was stopped. this unit has 6 outlets running off 2 SLA batteries that are in continuous charge so long as the AC is plugged in.not good for amps (too much current req'd), but awesome on line level. an astonishing sweetening of the top end, along w/ dramatic reduction in noise floor / blacker backgrounds.
my guess is you could get similar results w/ PLCs et al, but you'll spend a LOT more than i did ($300 on ebay). watch for this unit--it occasionally comes up used.
