The choke in "typical" CLC filters has a value in Henrys. The air core speaker inductors you mention are, at best, tenths of Henrys; these devices are not effective filters at 60 Hz. and mediocre filters at 120 Hz., the frequencies of greatest interest.IMO, using Schottky diodes to eliminate "hash" and proper bypassing of the large filter capacitors are a more cost effective way of lowering power supply noise.
