Hi Eric,
I trongly disagree with you. I tried bipolar transistors MAT02; not the worst around; and the FET 2SK389. The FETcircuit was the so much better sounding I could not believe my ears.
I also agree with John Curl that it is a benefit a inputcap is not needed. That's leaves another layer if grundge.
Textbook explanations point out the FET is not suited for the low source impedance of the moving coil cartridge, but practice tells another story. It is not a noisy circuit with the 2SK389 FET!
