Thanks for the input. For the record, Doug Self is only partially correct about FET's It is true that a DEGENERATED matched transistor pair will have somewhat less 3'rd harmonic distortion, BUT it will have other BIG side effects. It will have MORE higher order distortion, more noise, and will require a cap input! I have been using FET inputs for 30 years, I would not use anything else.
Apparently, Doug Self did not use a modern fet (25 years or less) in his model. The 2SK389 is a modern fet, is very quiet, fairly low capacitance, and a great match. My associates and I use them by the thousands, in amps preamps, research equipment, etc. We often make low distortion, low noise design with these devices, with little or no compromise.
