Re: OPamplifiers, Replacements

You have to be very, very careful when reading this type of article. It is like relying on a film (movie) critic to tell you if you are going to like a film or going into a car dealer and asking for ground transportation. (Automobile or truck? Sports car or 4x4?) Before selecting an Opamp you have to decide what you want out of it; Next stage loading, Slew Rate, Gain Bandwidth Product, HF phase margin etc. Your choice will be greatly governed by the surrounding circuitry and the overall gain of the block.

It troubles me that the article mentions some pretty old devices but not others such as the LT1037 ACN8 or LT1028 ACN8. The latter is my favourite as it features noise levels of <0.9nV/Hz, 11V/uS Slew rate and is stable at unity gain. If you want to read about the subject, look to people like Ben Duncan who build (as apposed to write about) amps for our most famous rock bands. What makes for a good instrumentation amplifier does not always sit well in HiFi applications.
