Hi Duster,
The in-process effort is using Neotech 28-gauge PTFE insulated 99% silver/1% gold alloy wire in a helical wind around a 100% cotton "core". No shield, and the wire is held firmly in place along the length of the core with heat shrink. I thought about using teflon tape to secure the wire to the core, but decided on the heat shrink thinking it would do better at holding everything in place and with proper spacing when flexed.
First run was using the gold-plated Valab RCA's. Wow! I was quite happy with most of the presentation and really happy with a couple things, but there was a definite softening on transients and an overall loss of dynamics which overshadowed the positives. Not sure what is causing this, so at this point I've replaced the Valabs with Absolute Harmony connectors, and have the cables in the Cooker now. Need some more cook time before I listen, but it will be interesting to see what happens. If ther's a major step forward in dynamics, then I'll know the connectors are what need focused on, and I'll probably order some of the rhodium Valabs to see if the culprit is the connector itself or the type of plating (I got the gold initially as I thought it would offer a more balanced presentation with the silver wire -- but that was just an assumption). And it may not be the connectors at all. They were just the easiest things to change out for something different while keeping everything else (mostly) constant. I'll post some pictures once I get a final version.
