I didn't compare the two panels because I made them for different locations in my room. You can't cheat the laws of physics and, if you belive Jon's assertion (I do) that you want broad-band abdorption, the only way to go is with a thick panel. A panel must be at least 1/4 wave length thick to have signiciant absorption so it is a given that the thicker panels will abosrb to lower frequencies.I made the thin panels for the corners behind my speakers where the panels are placed four feet from the rear wall. The greater spacing rom the wall will increase their absorption to a degree and the reflections at this point in my room are of lesser volume becasue the distance they have to travel is longer than elsewhere in the room.
