Tube Trap - Question for John Risch

Hi John,
Could you shed some light on the rationale of the ASC tube trap design and why it works so well with what appears to have very little use of sound absorbing "foam" (pardon the non-technical expression as I don't know what the material is). I'd like to construct a couple of tubes for my home theater. Also, where can I buy the materials?
