Re: Is this a good idea?

I took Jon's advice and cut four more holes. I picked up some leftover foam pieces from a TV studio finishing. It is a different type of eggcrate foam. No , it is not fire rated, I tested it and it burnt quite fast and became some sort of liquid. I compared this foam with the one I had in the first place. It is much lighter and softer (my old foam is a lot lighter and softer then bedding foam actually). To see if it absorbs LF, I placed one round piece snuggly in the subwoofer's vent. Yes, the LF became very distant. I really do not feel that the sweet spot was affected (maybe it is smaller, but better now), could this have to do with the fact that I listen in near field? I also placed a bigger piece of foam behind me. I did not place any on the side walls, I just want to see how the "speaker masks" would do to the sound. Anyway, without having listened carefully, I felt the new foam seemed to make the sound more relaxed and render the different instruments into a more coherent whole.
