Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ.

Yup, it sure is...

But it takes a LOT of work to mitigate most of the poor room acoustics/resonances. I was presented with a very similar room as yours and when I first setup my system in there, I was horrified at the absolute acoustic mess the room inflicted and damn near threw up my hands but having succesfully tamed/tuned 2 such rooms in the past, I had some work to do, some items to buy and some exhaustive speaker positioning to experiment with.

Most important is to first find the spots where the speakers sound the most neutral in the room and that will almost always be on some diaganol to the room walls with your listening position on a triangulation of that. In other words you need to completely clear the room of all furnishings and setup the speakers and your system and move the speakers around the parimeter of the room in a 360 degree circle in small increments until you find the "sweet spots" and then position your system for cable routing and access.
(You will most likely be moving your system around as well so setup only the main source and amplification components at this point)

Next comes room acoustic treatments and you'll need at the minimum corner traps and wall panels/acoustic foam for sure! Place the wall panels at the 1st reflection points and the traps in the nearest corners behind the speakers and one in a corner behind your listening spot. I also do 1st reflection points on the ceiling and floor but that is up to you. Floor to ceiling bass traps works best in the corners but only your budget will determine this.

The end result will most likely end up being a nearfield listening setup of which I prefer but I've been rewarded with some of the most 3D listening illusions and overall musicality that it is all worth the time and expenditure, IMHO.

Cheers
