Breathing through a cloth is NOT definitve for how much sound it will reflect, or not.It may be somewhat helpful to determine of the cloth culd be used on a bass trap that was not required to be wholly absorbing all around it's circumference, but if you want full absorption all around, then other crtieria are necessary. I measured a great many cloth's, and found many wanting.
In addition, the Guilford cloth's DO look nicer, in terms of how smooth and even they are, how much they hide the material behind them, and how professional they make an acoustic treatment look (as long as the cloth is properly tensioned and tacked/glued down).
With that said, the off white burlap, and the dark brown tend to look pretty decent, despite the rough open weave of the burlap (jute).
